Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Search engine optimization (SEM) is a process of enhancing the quantity and quality of site traffic from search engines to a certain site or a particular web page. SEM, or search engine optimization, is the process of driving relevant, targeted traffic via online search engines like Google, Yahoo, and Bing. The traffic generated through SEM can result in higher search engine rankings for your site or webpage as compared to targeted traffic. The process, however, should be done in a manner that would not cause over-saturated or highly commercial websites. Generally, SEM involves two major steps - on-page optimization and off-page optimization.

On-Page Optimization Is a set of generic tactics used to make a given website or webpage highly search engine optimized in terms of keywords used to search for the target site. Keywords or keyword phrases are selected and entered into an on-page optimization competition questionnaire, where they will be matched against various search results from major search engines and other on-page factors such as meta tags, headers, titles, and descriptions. Based on the match, the webpage will be improved or made more competitive. This step, when done well, will result in better ranking, more traffic, and a good position in search results for your targeted keyword.

Off-Page Optimization, on the other hand, deals with the content on a web page itself. The content is of high importance in search engine optimization because it determines the relevancy of a page in search results for a particular keyword phrase. It also determines the number of visitors that will be attracted to the site or web page through search engine results. It is important, therefore, to consider the content on your website's off-page SEO more carefully. The proper use of header tags, title tags, keywords, relevant content, and other off-page factors can result in much better off-page optimization results than on-page optimization.
